Here at Infinity Boat Club, we're always trying to open up new avenues of experience, confidence building and giving people the opportunities to develop their interests. Hear from our apprentice coach Demi about her experience completing her RYA course alongside two other members!
Last weekend, Hector Zenaj, Isaac Jones and I were given the opportunity to go to Tees River Rescue to complete our Level 2 Powerboat course to support our positions as assistant and apprentice coaches.
On the first day of our course, we learned a plethora of new skills. We were shown how to safely start and drive powerboats. Corey, from Tees River Rescue, also showed my peers and I how to hold off a powerboat from a fixed point and land safely on a pontoon which are both vital skills needed when driving a launch.
On the second day of our course, we practiced driving and steering at high speeds. We were also given the opportunity to drive through the Tees Barrage and practice driving on the tidal side of the River Tees.
Amongst driving powerboats, we also learned how to tie different types of knots and what to do if a member of our crew were to go overboard.
We are all extremely excited to take the next steps into our coaching journey together and strive towards inspiring the youth of Teesside to try something new with the support of our coaches at Infinity Boat Club. Thanks to Tees River Rescue for such an interesting weekend and the Tees Foundation & Sport England for the grants to make this happen!
The next wave of assistant coaches join Tees River Rescue for their RYA course in October.
